Famous National Parks in Uganda
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
There are so many scenic destinations in Uganda, but the vast Bwindi Impenetrable National Park stands out as the most renowned tourism hub for many visitors. With over 450 mountain gorillas that find home in this spot, the destination prides itself as the biggest gorilla home harboring nearly half the world's only remaining gorilla population.
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi involves a morning briefing about the whole gorilla experience, before diving into the thick forest with expert guides. Gorilla permits are always scarce, and that’s why booking one early is key for a seamless moment. When visitors finally sit and observe an encountered gorilla family, many often praise the moment as once in a lifetime experience.
Mgahinga National Park
Also Bwindi National Park’s neighbor, this park brings a different flavor of primate experience where only one particular gorilla family can be encountered. The spot is part of Virunga stunning mountains that spans Rwanda and Congo. Mgahinga National Park is also home to the socially intelligent golden monkey, aside from the gorillas. Many visitors often claim that gorilla trekking in Mgahinga is more physically demanding than in Bwindi due to the steep terrain but worth every effort.
Queen Elizabeth National Park
When it comes to savanna safari vibes, Uganda is one of those few tourism destinations to think of. The mighty Queen Elizabeth National Park is the most visited national park in the country and offers the most remarkable exclusive savanna wildlife experience. Game drives in Queen Elizabeth are always on every bucket list, and brings visitors up close with herds of elephants or buffaloes and the famous tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector that are not so common in other safari hubs.
The Kazinga channel relaxing boat cruise experience is one to die for, it brings one of Africa's highest concentrations of hippos and crocodiles and delivers the most mind-blowing and rewarding wildlife experience. Kyambura Gorge adds another primate depth with its chimpanzee and other primates tracking.
Murchison Falls National Park
Uganda’s largest and oldest tourism hub is the great Murchison falls national park, bringing the most unforgettable raw game experience. The Nile River forms its powerful Murchison Falls that pulls crowds from all over the world. A variety of wildlife from giraffes, elephants, to lions, and leopards can all be potted.
Boat rides on the mighty River Nile brings close encounters of hippos and a variety of bird species. Game drives here is one of the most convenient way to encounter the outstanding wild life of the Murchison.

Top National Parks in Rwanda
Volcanoes National Park
The most sought-after destination in the country is none other than Volcanoes national park, it shelters a good number of the mountain gorillas and apparently the second largest host of the silent primates. Gorilla trekking experience here is almost the same as that of Uganda but in a more modern and organized way.
Visitor groups are limited to a number of eight visitors assigned per gorilla family. Many passionate travelers love to combine this with golden monkey trekking in the Virunga, a full unmatched primate experience.
Nyungwe Forest National Park
This is another premier primate destination in Rwanda and brings one of Africa's oldest forests, where over thirteen primate species find shelter, including large populations of chimpanzees. Unlike tracking the gentle gorillas, chimpanzee trekking is another favorite for many visitors and feels more active and energetic than the quiet humble gorilla.
Akagera National Park
Akagera National Park is for passionate travelers who seek a raw savannah wildlife experience like that of Uganda. The spot supports the Big 5 wildlife action to offer visitors with a full ultimate wildlife experience. Like many other safari destinations in Africa, Akagera National Park has also faced bits of conflicts like displacement of wildlife and poaching activities.
Akagera game drives excites many, and boat cruises along the scenic Lake Ihema brings visitors closer to crocodiles, hippos, and crocodiles. In a country dominated by lush vegetation, Akagera is the most iconic savannah spot in the country.
Best Time Visit Uganda & Rwanda
The dry period of the year, especially from June to September during the long dry season is without question the most favorable time to visit both countries. December to February is also a suitable time for passionate travelers who seek exclusivity and private spaces. The dry season trails are firm, and the stunning wildlife easier to sight since they tend to gather around available water sources.
The wet rainy seasons are less ideal to visit both counties especially between March to May, and October to November. The period delivers fertile thick vegetation, negotiable rates and perfect for those who want limited crowds, but the trails are hard to pass and some areas turn unreachable.
Captivating tourism activities like gorilla trekking can be done at any part of the year, but the dry period that also coincides with the peak season hits a sweet spot for a full unmatched wildlife experience.
